Nothing sells like sex. Except may be sex toys. Just how many of them? As many as 500 parcels containing products associated with sexual pleasure — vibrators, videos, magazines and other equipment — are received at the foreign post office every month.

However, the parcels — mostly credit card transactions over the internet from sex shops or gifts from relatives or friends abroad — never make it to those they are addressed to.

Apparently, the men and women who send for these sex toys are unaware of the fact that all parcels are routinely opened up at the Customs office in the post office premises. Examined by Customs Department officials and found to be ‘‘objectionable and banned items,’’ the addressee is usually sent for and a clarification sought.

One wonders why the Govt. of India wants to get into our bedrooms? This is Govt. interference of the worst sort!

This cannot be said of any any place in India, although matters have improved a lot in pockets, especially with the advent of the internet. But all said and done, it is still a difficult proposition to get physical intimacy, off the fly.

I have often thought that there is a need to start a dating service which offers a service to pair compatible men and women who need only sex and nothing else-safely. Although there are some dating clubs that have sprung up in metros, none offers a ‘safe sex only’ dating service.

The only thing that is holding me off starting this service, is that I am unsure of whether Indian women will be bold enough to come out and call for this service, in sufficient numbers. Unless this is possible, such a service wont be viable, for after all, i have no intention of starting a call girl racket. I only want to pair off consenting adults as a social service.

I vision this service as a safe place where consenting adults who like each other can meet and have fun, without disclosing their identities.
